Energetic, dynamic and complicated are the three adjectives that I describe the hospitality industry. It involves challenges, changes and competitions wherever and whenever. As a student who loves to challenge my limits, I am deeply attracted by the nature of this fast-growing industry especially when I performed my internship in an international hotel group few months ago. It was my honor to be part of the Revenue Department where I learned how the strategic decision of selling rooms to the right guests helped to boost revenue. This experience inspires me to take the managerial role in a 5-star hotel in the future, and also one of the reasons that drives me to pursue the master’s degree in Management Hospitality in your university, in which it would be an essential step towards my career ambition.
My several academic achievements received in these years attest to my excellence and perseverance in study. In my bachelor’s degree programme, I have gained a strong foundation in hospitality and convention management at both operational and managerial levels. I have found myself engaging in analyzing the real case studies on the hospitality industry, in which it helps me to improve strategic thinking skills. Under the guidance of my supervisor, I participated in a research project investigating the tourist behavior and their travel motivations. I was fascinated by the new discoveries in research which allowed me to understand how the data could help in making strategic decision on attracting high value travelers. Out of my interest in and passion for hospitality management, I grasped the opportunity to participate in the summer exchange programme in the University of XX where I took the course on Global Hospitality Operations. From the sharing of renowned professors and industry professionals, I learned the insights on emerging hospitality sectors and expand my horizon on the management style of international hotel industry. I keen on learning advanced knowledge that can help me to succeed in hospitality career.
During the past few months, I have started my first career experience in an international hotel group as a trainee at the Revenue Department. I am impressed by how the management demonstrates efficient operations and implements effective strategies that lead the property to stay competitive in this tough business environment. Not only do I learn technical skills on data analysis and revenue forecast, but I also gain insight on how to facilitate collective collaboration across the departments. The internship experience gives me inspiration on how to run the student association more effectively as a Vice President. With the aim to allow my fellow schoolmates to get the first-hand information on hospitality industry, I have been working hard with the President to motivate members to establish mentoring programme that helps to connect them with the alumni. The process is challenging yet enjoyable, and it enhances my interpersonal and communication skills. I have found myself fully immersed in this exciting and vibrant industry and I am eager to learn more about the management skills that are essential to my future development.
As a person who has always been very goal-oriented, I am looking forward to taking a further step towards becoming an outstanding leader in hotel industry. My eager for pursuing further study in hospitality management becomes stronger when I come across the comprehensive and high-standard modules of this postgraduate programme. I am attracted to the specialization in revenue management, which allows me to learn mastery-level knowledge on relevant management principles. Moreover, through networking with people in the same field and talking with the experts of the industry, I strongly believe that I can gain a broad understanding of different components in hospitality and shape myself to be an outstanding leader in one of the largest international hotel groups.
